HOW TO SELECT 50 ILLUSTRATORS OUT OF 1360?
First of all, the members of the jury had the opportunity to browse through the tables and get familiarized with the images. An individual pre-selection process then took place, enabling to reject those works that clearly did not meet the required quality standards. Then the jury, again individually, classified each group of illustrations as “good”, “very good” and “excellent”. A first selection of 50 illustrators emerged from this ranking.
It is important to clarify that it soon became apparent that the pictures by the German Susanne Janssen had a high probability to be within the finalists. At this point, Christian Bruel, who is also the editor of the pictures under question, declared that he could no longer take part on the selection and he abandoned the process with the agreement of the other members of the jury.
The remainder members then reassessed and confirmed the selected illustrations and unanimously decided the 1st prize and special mentions.
